Call For Artists for Unspoken Exhibition
Sweet ‘Art is a non-profit organization operating from a feminist perspective, which is dedicated to the promotion of visual artists through the delivery of regular site-specific exhibitions. From the 9 May to 1 June 2018 Sweet ‘Art will be hosting Unspoken, an exhibition exploring the repressed and taboo.
Unspoken will be held at the aptly atmospheric Stash Gallery, part of Vout-O-Reenees members club, hidden in the depths of a crypt. We are seeking works that will respond to the theme of the hidden, unseen or unthinkable. Works will explore the repressed and taboo in a personal or social context, or highlight the unspeakable, the unconscious, the compulsive or secret. The theme can be explored with sincerity, humor or irreverence and shame, guilt or fear can be mocked or exorcised in the crypt. The Freudian slip, the somatic symptom, the fetishistic fantasy, the voyeuristic obsession or embarrassing diary entry, can all find a place and be laid to rest.
We will be seeking works in any medium including painting, photography, print and sculpture (although the size of the gallery will limit work size to under 1.5m square) and in honour of our organizational ethos we also welcome works that explore the theme in relation to issues that affect women both socially and politically. We also particularly welcome submissions from BAME artists and women of colour.
Selected artists will be given the opportunity to exhibit in the beautiful Stash Gallery located in London’s Aldgate near to Tower Bridge. The show will be installed by experienced curators, and invitations, press releases and promotion will be included. The opening reception will be hosted in the most decadent of surroundings and organized to the highest spec. along with the usual Sweet ‘Art freebies and surprises!
There is no fee to submit your work and those whose work is accepted will be asked to pay an exhibition fee of £50 plus a £2 paypal charge to cover exhibiting costs as Sweet ‘Art is a non funded organization. You can read more about our fees, selection process and mission and values on our website.
