Discover have been commissioned by Newham Council’s Community Neighbourhood Team to run and programme Newham Word Festival, which will run between 6 and 19 November 2017.
The festival will see events held in the borough’s libraries, community centres, schools, and outdoor spaces and the programme will include story slams, storytelling, author events, debates, visual arts, performance and more for people of all ages to enjoy.
The festival’s programme will be announced after the summer, but it is expected that there will be a fantastic blend of home-grown talent alongside some of the UK’s best known authors and poets. Watch this space for more information.
Councillor Ken Clark, Deputy Mayor (Statutory) for Strategic Delivery and Cabinet Member for Community Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Planning and Public Affairs, said: “This promises to be a fun packed festival with something for everyone.
“It will also give local artists a platform to showcase their work and I hope as many as possible take up the opportunity to get involved.”
Karla Barnacle Best, the CEO of Discover Children’s Story Centre, said: ‘We are delighted that we have the opportunity to do this festival on our own doorstep with our own community, we’ve grown up here.’
