A Month at the Venice Art Biennale: Work by British Council Fellows

Details

15 Feb 2018 to 04 Mar 2018
Opening times:

Thursday to Sunday, 10am-4pm

This pop-up exhibition showcases the creative responses of 20 Fellows who spent a month in Venice during the 57th Art Biennale, May-November 2017.

As part of a steward-research programme at the British Pavilion, the Fellows (students, recent graduates, artists and researchers) spent 12 days researching a topic or theme through site-specific and archival research focused either on the biennale or Venice itself.

Fellows responded in many ways – extending their artistic practice or enhancing an academic line of enquiry. The range of responses, from small sculptures to video works and sound pieces, highlights the diversity of talent from UK higher education and arts institutions. What results is a sense of Venice that is very individual to the Fellows.

About the Venice Fellowship programme

The Venice Fellowship programme is a British Council managed programme in partnership with UK higher education and arts institutions.

The Fellowships programme is a unique opportunity for students, graduates and researchers to spend a month in Venice during one of the world’s most significant art and architecture biennales.

The programme was initiated in 2014 by the British Council to strengthen the British Pavilion contribution as a platform for ideas and research. This programme aims to educate and enrich the biennale exhibition, making it a reference point for universities and arts institutions. The Fellowships offers a way of viewing and experiencing art and architecture that provides a new outlook on issues of public and private space, artistic process and display.
