A-side B-side Gallery is pleased to present:
‘Fresh Face’ a group exhibition
Lou Rivers, Alicia Lowe and Gitana Vaicyte, are working in collaboration exploring female identity through various art medias; painting, drawing and prints. The “Fresh Face” exhibition aims to question what it means to be a woman, do we comply to the stereotypes society wants us to be, or are our identities never fixed and forever changing? As female artists, we have each found ourselves the victims of discrimination from time to time, often causing unpleasant emotions which we all attempt to make explicit within our artwork. Marrying properties of both, figurative and abstract painting together, we create our own fresh face of portraiture.
To do this we have all taken influences from old masters such as Rembrandt, Goya, Cezanne and Van Gogh, including contemporary painters such as, Francis Bacon, David Hockney, Lucien Freud and most importantly taking inspiration from female artists as Mary Cassatt, Jenny Savile, Marlene Du-mas and Georgia O’Keeffe. Drawing inspiration from works of different centuries and genders, has made it possible for us to create work in a new and exciting way, which is showcased through this exhibition.
