Over the course of the weekend there will be opportunities to visit working studios of over 150 artists, join studio tours, visit a new exhibition and keep the children entertained at special children’s workshops. With so much going on, it’s no wonder that this is one of the largest and most respected annual art events in East London.
Open Studios kicks off on the Friday night with a party atmosphere from 6.30pm. There will be live music, bars and Thai food in the courtyard garden. All of the artists’ studios at the main Bow Road site will be open, as well as the brand new P1 Studios, situated a short walk away.
Saturday is a family day and children will be able to get ‘stuck in’ and join free arts activities led by experienced artists. All the artists involved in the workshops also participate in the well established Bow Arts Trust Education programme so they have hours of experience working with children and know how to keep them entertained!
The weekend coincides with the launch of a new exhibition at the Nunnery Gallery. This exhibition has been curated by Bow Art Trust artist-in-residence Franko B. The exhibition, Can You Hear It? showcases work from 21 Bow Arts artists – all of whom will be participating in the Open Studios. As part of the weekend’s activities, Franko will be giving a talk about the exhibition at 2.45pm on Sunday 27 June.
Open Studios offer the public the rare opportunity to meet and engage with the artists in their working environment. This friendly, relaxed event is a perfect opportunity to purchase original works at pre-gallery prices. The Open attracts national and international audiences, people from the local community, first time visitors, collectors and curators looking for those hidden gems, and the general public enjoying a great day out. Visitors to the Bow Arts Trust event will be able to find out even more about the work of local artists by attending one of the artist-led studio tours at 1.30pm and 4pm on Sunday 27 June.
