Born in 1990, Sophie Chapman is a London based Artist, originally from Newcastle. She has studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design, the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste Wien, and completed her BA at Central St Martins College of Art and Design (with a First Class Honours). Sophie has shown in group and solo exhibitions in Newcastle, London, Vienna and Berlin. Recent shows include Thames Tower Residency, London and Colligere, Berlin. Interested in arts education, Sophie is involved in a number of charities and projects including Action Space, Cultures of Resilience and the formation of a new studio Co-Op. She was recently nominated for the NOVA Award 2014, and her work has been featured in publications online (TRIP Mag) and in print (AVENIR Magazine).
Process led, mixed media practice, interested in the everyday and the ways in which known objects, images and ideas may be pulled apart and re- examined in order to articulate processes, systems of thought or experience that are taken for granted. I am interested in the politics surrounding the creation of art as well as art education.
