Shakti Orion

Location: Bow, London

I am a choreographer, performance and visual artist, originally from Spain, and based in London for the last ten years. I studied at Trinity Laban Centre and at Goldsmith college. My eclectic background moves between live art, dance, installations, video, photography, painting and collages. Over the last few years I have been working with immersive installations, site specific performances and image creation, within my own personal work as well as community an integration art projects.

In my practice I have been exploring and rising questions about anxiety, existence/ mortality, identity and its ongoing fabrication; in a call for authenticity that is nevertheless faced with a culture that is synthesised an manufactured through the mass media.

This summer I have been awarded with two international art residencies, one in South Korea, with the Seoul Foundation of Arts and Culture at Seoul Dance Centre, where I created and presented to the public three new works,
and a second one at Hospitalfield Arts Centre, an influential centre for contemporary arts in Scotland.

In December this year I will present my work in Italy, performing at the Opening of Contemporary Venice, an international Art Expo, and presenting a video art piece at Body-spaces Art Show, in Rome.

I am an associate artist member of Chisenhale Dance Space in London, and my work has been presented in various venues and festivals in the UK and abroad.

This February I have presented a performance installation at Leyton Library, Miss Valentinas, with the support of Waltham Forest Libraries.
