Francisco Riego is a Spanish-born artist living in London. He studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, from which he graduated in 1998. Having explored other creative areas, he focused on photography as a means of expression.
Varied in terms of approach, Riego’s work is permeated by overtones of introspective emotion. The built environment, the natural landscape and the relationships between representation and subjective significance are some of the main concerns in his search, in which the poetic prevails over the explanatory. His most recent work combines a variety of subjects: fragments of reality, spaces, objects, symbolic elements and cross-references are grouped and recomposed as a timeless sum of visions, inviting meditative contemplation and multiple readings.
Riego has lived and worked in Spain, Italy and Ireland. In 2011 he moved to the UK, where he has since been based.
