My paintings begin life as collages made from images collected over time. They maintain the fragmented qualities of collage and present evidence of a de-assembling and physical slicing of a past image. The works reflect on the changing representations of a romantic landscape that is present in the collected sources, from historical paintings, sci-fi illustration and virtual spaces.
The final paintings present abandoned spaces that act as a stage for objects and monuments that have been lost in time. I am intrigued by the way in which painting can project the presence of absence within a space and how evidence of abandonment can become clear with relationships between man-made and natural forms.
