Laura Dee Milnes
I am an artist, performer and writer working across media, using live and recorded performance and often responding to sites. I aim to exploit, explain and expand my autobiography, using personal experience and family history as source material for live performance, which also incorporates video, audio, self-portraiture in various 2-D media and handmade props, puppets and costumes. I identify strongly not so much as 'working class' but as 'poor' – a term I aim to reclaim. I also believe firmly that as a female, I have a lot of work to do to redress the balance of gender equality, particularly in common perception, preconceptions and assumptions made about women (especially poor ones). I am interested in the gender specifications that I come across too often in what I am often led to be believe is a progressive and modern age.
