Having spent many years of my life in Indonesia my work is influenced by the yellow light of that archipelago, inspired also by Paul Gaugin from an early age, I have always been drawn to painting in bright clean colours.
The bulk of my work is in oil colour, mostly I enjoy painting nature and human figures. In my work I like to make subtle exaggerations to form, tone and colour in the hope of creating meaning, metaphor or to enhance a particular feeling or mood.
I am an avid believer in the usage of clean colour and I try to avoid working with a dirty palette. I hope that my work presents a certain optimism through its presentation of colour and subject.
I am about to embark on a portrait series of my friends and family. My plan is to go back to basics somewhat and to use realist painting techniques, but knowing me, I will probably be whipping my palette knives out and slapping chunks of paint on the canvas in no time!
