Georgie Mason

Location: London

Georgie Mason is a fine artist using mixed media to create unique works. She is originally from Suffolk and now works from her studio in Hackney Wick, London. She is known for her semi-abstract sea & landscapes and is increasingly interested in using found and natural resources including reclaimed tiles & slates, mud, sand, wild berry stains and natural charcoal.

Recently Georgie has been absorbed by the idea that art can be found all around us, in the seemingly mundane. She says, ‘maybe it’s because I’m looking out for it but I am always struck by the incredible beauty that is really everywhere: the effect of a repainted yellow line on a road where old ones show through; the detail of layers of paint crackling off an old gate.’ Georgie tries to bring her environment into her work by incorporating artefacts and resources found all around her. She is heading towards a practise that tangibly works with and onto nature, rather than solely from it.

After completing her Art Foundation at Oxford Brookes University Georgie studied English Literature and History of Art at Nottingham University. Since graduating in 2015, she has exhibited internationally including in The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Affordable Art Fest in Goa. She has had six solo shows, been the judge of Young Art East Anglia at the Peter Piers Gallery in Aldeburgh and is currently artist in residence at Oundle School.
Acclaimed director Souleyman Messalti made a documentary about her work, as part of his series ‘Portraits of Hackney Wick’. Her work sells to a number of notable patrons across both the art world and the wider world.
