Bio:

My practice combines the pictorial and gestural history of performance within painting to create a performed photography or ‘performed sculpture’ that challenges current dialogues in performance art/live art practice. Using Live performance and performance to camera I investigate my own physicality, resistance and female identity. I explore the concept of authenticity within performance art as I work in relation to real life, durational, feminist and filmed performance. to re-evaluate the means of authenticity of performance in visual art. The virtual and artificial are key concepts that explored throughout my practice. This is questioned through the camera frame, colours and composition. The narrative of my performance practice questions ideas of authenticity and physicality through the relationship between body and object. Through improvisation I question physically challenging activities which references the durational performances of Alistair McLennan and Marina Abramovic. Gender and Feminism are core themes within my work where I intend for my work to act as an extension of the works of seminal feminists of Carolee Schneemann, Joan Jonas, Martha Rosler.
