Esther Ainsworth is a Sound Artist trained in Fine Art and Digital Media. Her work investigates soundscapes in specific environments, usually taking the form of installation and performance.
Concentrating on the soundscape of specific environments, her methodology is to collect field recordings, producing sound compositions of the places she encounters, often including elements of audience authorship by allowing participants to contribute sonic information via phone and other networked media.
This work has lead her to take up numerous appointments over the last eleven years in both the UK and overseas. In 2013 Esther was appointed as artist in residence with Bridge Guard residency, Štúrovo, Slovakia, concentrating on the study of the Maria Valeria Bridge and considering it as a metaphor for the creation of virtual bridges in communities using sound.
In London, Esther recently completed a twelve month residency at Bow Church, considering the location and history of the church and creating a number of events, which link the church to both the local and wider community. She has since been concentrating on the development of her experimental music series ‘Lazy Modem’ as part of Kings Place’s Out Hear programme as well as a new commissioned sound work for Camden New Wave Festival in Partnership with the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
