Location: London

My work deals with ideas surrounding displacement and the uncanny repetitive nature of comings and goings amongst humans. This typically manifests itself through kinetic sculpture and sound installations –taking the form of objects that relate to the domestic and also visual language, such as the act of waving. I use sound as a way of telling tales, sometimes but not limited to, the use of tales of others that are woven into a narrative alongside poetry, against a backdrop of sound that surrounds us on an everyday basis.

Looking at the presence of others, I seek out connections between objects and experience –how one can interact with and re-interpret a story that is unfolding as it becomes potentially relatable to the viewer/listener. Through this I am examining how thought and memory can be recollected and re-examined through the collection of narratives, both metaphorical and non-metaphorical – a play on the thought of how one can seek to alter and distort one’s own truths. This is a prompt for the opening up of one’s own attachments (hence the use of objects that we may consider to be precious in the age of the consumer) and discourse in relation to others. These others may be known or unknown, they may be the bodies of those that are placed within the work, or alternatively the bodies that they themselves know. The body is present yet absence, a manifestation of the physical, through a cast of an arm, where someone once was, a recording of a wave. The activation of my work requires the physicality of the participant (motion sensors) as they are required to be in the work for it to become active. The stories told unfolds through random configurations, each tale becomes owned by the viewer. They become the body and the performer.
