dohyun baek

Location: London

Born 1994
South Korea
Do Hyun Baek was born in South Korea and studied BA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. He now lives and works in London. Throughout his life, Do Hyun has moved home from South Korea to India and to the UK, and this life experience of learning and settling into a new culture has brought about his strong interest in culture and religion. Through his art work, he meditates on what the source of contemporary morality is and question contemporary moral structures. Since the deconstruction of traditional values and the rejection of religious discourse in the public sphere, where is contemporary morality placing its roots? Do Hyun's work reflects on how even though contemporary art is at the forefront of examining sensitive political and moral issues, it also refuses to discuss the basis for its own moral opinions and arguments, especially in relation to religion. He wonders how, without a clear foundation, this morality can be justified or have any sense of authority.
