Dorry Hsu is a practicing artist known for her 3D printing body sculpture. ‘Aesthetic of Fears’ seeks to visualize the emotional fears which arise from computer-generated forms. In the process of creating ‘body sculpture’, she aims to create innovative ways of wearing adornment objects which evoke ritual, religion and culture. Therefore, it offers the contemporary wearer an extra layer of narrative.
From the training of a photographer, camera becomes Dorry’s mechanical eye to see things in a decisive and quizzical way. The transition between image taking to object making, Dorry works from passive photographing ready-made object to actively make symbolic objects. Exploring the relationship between sculpture and the body is one of the research areas pursued by Dorry Hsu in her art practice.
Dorry holds a BA in Fine Art Photography from Emily Carr Art and Design University, Canada and an MA in Goldsmith, Silversmith, Metalwork and Jewellery from the Royal College of Art, London. Dorry is also a member of Royal British Society of Sculptors. Her works have been exhibited and published internationally.
