The exhibition revolves around the ideas of consciousness and memory in relation to technology. The title Mercerism is derived from Philip K. Dicks novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (1968), Mercerism is the technology based religion of the future which creates a collective consciousness that ultimately lead to an empathy between humans; in a sense an almost spiritualized unity of Joy and pain.

Other philosophical concepts explored in the both the book and film adaptation (Blade Runner 1982) are what constitutes a human being; in the book empathy is the main ingredient ( according to Deckard) for Tyrell it is memory.

The work in the exhibition relates to both the film and book.
