Curated by artists and architects, the Summer Exhibition is the largest open exhibition in the world. A showcase for contemporary art, it attracts more than 200,000 visitors each year.
Successful entries are shown alongside the works of Royal Academicians, many of whom are internationally renowned. Artists have the opportunity to sell their artworks and £50,000 is awarded in prizes.
Anyone can enter
- Open online account at roy.ac/submit
- Purchase entry for one or two works*
- Complete and submit digital entry online
- Entry opens on 4 January
- There are 12,000 entries Once 12,000 places have been sold, it will not be possible to purchase entry
- The artwork submission deadline is 23:59 on 15 February
The Summer Exhibition Committee shortlists up to 4,000 artworks from digital images submitted online. Artists are requested to deliver shortlisted works to the RA for the second round of judging.
Artists recieve email notifications after each round of judging and can track the progress of their submissions online.
16 March First round results (from digital images only)

Artists are only required to deliver their work if it is shortlisted from the digital judging

£25,000 The Royal Academy of Arts Charles Wollaston Award for the most distinguished work
£10,000 The Jack Goldhill Award for a sculpture
£5,000 The Hugh Casson Drawing Prize
£4,000 The Sunny Dupree Family Award for a Woman Artist
£2,500 The London Original Print Fair Prize, sponsored by Towry for a print in any medium
£1,000 The Rose Award for Photography
£5,000/£3,000 The British Institution Awards for Students (two prizes)

Please note that the RA takes a commissions of 30% (plus VAT, if applicable) of the VAT exclusive price on all artwork sales.
*Non-refundable fee of £25 per work.
